Sweet Angeline
(Rachel Erin Robinson)
cold and consoling, a fresh piece of art
he held you so cruelly, like you were a dart
awake for the journey, longing for flight,
but he never threw you that night
amazed by the beauty, she took photographs
to capture the moment the best way she had
so she could remember, go back to the day
that place where there's nowhere to stay
there was lavender bloom all around
as it sickened him slowly, he clung to the sound
of sweet Angeline singing like noone was there
then the flutter of wings in the air
she walked in the water, cold earth in her hand
then she painted her body with the mark of the land
he told her his stories beneath glistening leaves
as his words slipped away in the breeze
love in the sunshine, a verse in a cloud,
intent on the meaning, they shout it out loud
and run cross the river, suspended in air
and leave like they never were there
there was lavender bloom all around
as it sickened him slowly, he clung to the sound
of sweet Angeline singing like noone was there
then the flutter of wings...
a song on a ceiling, words hung on a wall,
still the memory changes each time it's recalled
but somehow in changing, becomes something new
a story impossibly true
a story impossibly true

Seven Boats
(words and music by Sean Michael Robinson)
a little thought as I awoke
often said but seldom spoke
survey says, your life's a joke
a joke
innocent but still devote,
the little prayers catch in your throat
they're in your mouth, but still remote,
remote
screaming gulls alight
undivided sky
seven boats and several sunning turtles
to the place where their lives align
calm and still, all afloat
brings the breeze, seven boats
all are lost to anecdote...

First Light of Day
(Rachel Erin Robinson)
you came into this world, a look of awe on your face
your mother she held you as you saw the first light of day
decided that you would stay
and you ran through the green grass no shoes on your feet
dove into the water and swam down as deep as you could
you were looking for something
don't forget about me in here
I'm the girl in the picture that's pinned to your mirror
and I won't go away
in the park with your father, you're friends with the geese
you call them by name and you know they are happy
just to see you there
you came into this world, a look of awe on your face
your mother she held you as you saw the first light of day

Only Need the Stars
(Sean Michael Robinson)
Katie was the first of us to make it
she cut her hair — I followed down the tracks
with a little food and a baseball bat for practice
we carried everything upon our backs
we'd walk the edge of every town we came to
till nothing was left open but the bars
then we'd sit awhile and watch the twilight dwindle
until we fell asleep under the stars
they hover far above our indiscretions
they twinkle from a place we can't conceive
and you can beg and you can plead for their protection,
but a little light is all that you'll receive
they caught us half a mile out of Lakeland
Katie ran so fast they didn't have a chance
well they cuffed me quick and tossed me in the back seat
and I begged and cried, o please don't take me back
an hour gone is an hour of aching
I just paced the cell and imagined the sky
outside the crickets called out for each other
looking for a friend to help them pass the time
now the school is gone and the church is boarded over
and Muffler King has muffled its last car
four decades on there's nothing left to see here
and sympathy won't carry you too far
you can keep your prayers, I only need the stars
